Variety known as ‘malvasía de Rioja’ or ‘alarije’, it is one of the 9 different varieties of malvasia.
Very productive, its ripe grains are reddish yellow and gives some fatty, aromatic, sweet wines very balanced and interesting. There are many malvasias in the world, but they are not considered synonyms of the malvasia of Rioja, which has interesting possibilities for obtaining high quality whites.
Detail of the vintage : 2020 — VERY GOOD
The 2020 harvest began on September 21 and ended on October 9; 3 weeks that have passed with total normality in all aspects.
After a dry and warm winter, we had an early budding (about 2 weeks in advance), followed by a very wet spring, where we had to control especially the mildew until the veraison began. The veraison occurred on normal dates (first week of August), so we could foresee a harvest without surprises, 50 days later.
The sweltering heat of summer lasted precisely until mid-September, so we could have an autumn harvest, like those of yesteryear, the typical rioja: great thermal differences between day and night and even very cold, with North wind. We got to pick grapes at 6 degrees. This cold has made the ripening has been one of the best in recent years, grapes with a lot of color, very balanced in grade, acidity and surprisingly soft tannins. A year to macerate the wines for a long time without extracting astringency or greenery.
